Professor Stephen Glaister of the RAC Foundation has publicity condemned Westminster City Council's total removal of parking meters from the borough.
In an open letter to the Evening Standard he writes "More than 50 years after the first one was introduced, Westminster City Council has removed its last coin-operated street parking meter in favour of paying by phone, text, or credit card. Rather than being for the convenience of drivers this move is more about preventing theft and avoiding having to pay people to empty the meters. All well and good for council tax payers, but what about foreign visitors to the capital?"
We agree with Professor Glaister concerns and would also like to add our own comments, namely, what about those who do not have a credit card, or those who do not choose to use a mobile phone?
Is this not blatant discrimination ?
We think this favours Westminster City Council and totally disregards the needs of the general public.
Another case of Westminster City Council ignoring the needs of the public for their own gain and convenience?
